In search of digital marketing tools for your business? If you’re a creative business owner, you won’t want to miss this episode of TriPod LIVE! Ross Herosian and Hillary Houghton (Founder, Social HQ) discuss the digital marketing tools that they’re thankful for. We’ll be covering a ton of different categories – social media management, content creation, email marketing, and more!

Later

If you are looking for a social media management tool, you may consider Later. There are various tools that are similar, but Later has a unique approach. It is a visually-focused tool. It was created on the idea of Instagram, a visual platform. You will be trying to make your posts look cohesive so that your brand really sticks out. People will want to engage with your content solely because it is a lot more comprehensive visually and aesthetic. If you are focusing on having an aesthetic, Later is a great place to start, especially for Instagram.

Content Studio

ContentStudio

Ross really loves ContentStudio, even though it doesn’t seem to be a “main-player”. Oddly enough, Ross was exposed to this website by an ad. It is one of the more affordable sites with many tools. It’s not as visual as Later, but it’s great if your business struggles with “not having enough to post”. Curating content will put you in a position of knowledge and experience in the field you are addressing. It’s not content you create, but content other’s have created and you can share and say your input as well. Once you build credibility and trust, your audience will be more apt to request your products or services.

This feature is built into ContentStudio with it’s Discover tab, which allows you to share content onto your own social media platforms all from one app/website! It’s scheduling features are also very nice.

Sprout Social

Hillary loves Sprout Social. They do a great job at educating and have a ton of data that they put out on social index every year. We recommend you check it out.  There’s a ton of data on how customers are buying online, what activities they’re doing more/less of, where your brand needs to be, etc…  They do a wonderful job of educating, regardless if you use the platform or not.

They are, however, one of the more expensive options. Hillary recommends it more if you are in an agency setting or if you have a larger team. If your team is larger, this platform is so valuable and worth it.

VlogEasy

VlogEasy

If you are interested in vlogging (video blogging) or if you want to create videos for your stories, VlogEasy is a great tool to cut down on your editing. It automatically determines where there is silence and creates jump cuts. On top of that, it also has over 5,000 royalty free photos, videos, music, and stickers to create videos like a pro all on your phone.

Darkroom

Does your brand have a very specific photo filter style? It gets tedious editing photos to fit your style and you may consider Darkroom. It is an app that can also be on Mac Books, for photo editing. You can create your own filter style and save it a preset. Ross particularly has a preset he’s saved for his brand that pushes the blues and pushes the saturation of colors that he uses on 90% of his photos for Tricycle Creative.

Adobe

Lightroom

The phone app version is freemium, which is similar to Darkroom. You can mess with the settings to come up with a filter that you can save for future use. Hillary recommends making a few different filters depending on where photos are take, for example day and night.

Rush

This is another freemium as an app. If you feel like you use a lot of Adobe apps, you may consider investing in the Creative Suite which will give you access to all their tools. This is video editing on your phone (or across platforms). You can add title effects and it gives you templates for the different platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram Story.

Spark

This tool is similar to Canva, but not quite. It has a lot of pre-made templates that you can use to create strong visual content when you are not the strongest creator or designer. Resizing is great for using the same content for multiple platforms with different sizes that is an unknown gem.

InShot

InShot very similar to Rush, for editing video. It is freemium. When you get into the effects, that’s where you may start paying for effects. They have amazing music you can put over that is free along with sound effects, and the ability to add your own music or voice-overs. Overall, it’s very easy to use and also supports the resizing feature for different social media platforms.

Hemingway App

Hemingwayapp

For copywriters or anyone that’s writing words (social posts, blogs, website, etc…), Hemingway App is for you! It scans what you write and makes sure that what you’re writing is simple to understand. It takes out the flowery excessive “fluff”. It will give you a grade and highlight the parts that need work, such as adverbs, passive voice, and hard to read language.

LifeLapse

Are you a stop motion enthusiast? LifeLapse may be for you! Stop motion can add a little bit of spice to your social media. It has everything you need to add life to your brand and is designed to be clean and easy to use, especially on Instagram. Of course, it has tutorials to teach you the simple technique to create a polished finished product.

Square Fit

SquareFit

Instagram is very well known for needing square ratio. Sometimes when you crop it in Instagram, it might cut out details you want to keep, so to make a photo or video square, consider Square Fit. If you have an HD video, you can also bring it in to add text above the video to use the empty space wisely.

Active Campaign

This may not be the best solution for someone who is just starting out. If you’ve made the decision to invest in email marketing, then Ross recommends Active Campaign. It has smart segmenting automation features that bring a learning curve. It’s not as simple as Mail Chimp. Active Campaign has a lot more tools and parts. You can set it up so that if someone visits a specific page on your website, it will send them a specific email you’ve catered to that website.

Streamyard

Streamyard

Streamyard is the platform that they used to film the video above, and is one of Ross’s favorite. Ross has tried MANY live streaming platforms, but if you are looking into starting to live stream, Streamyard is the way to go. As a producer and host of a show, it’s very hard to navigate and talk at the same time. Ross will show you the various layouts available for streaming in the video above.

Google Workspace

Google Workspace

If you are a business owner and you are working to centralize all your documentation and email, Google Workspace is your solution. If you don’t want to use Zoom for your meetings, Google Meet is available. If you want all your business emails in one place, there’s Gmail. You’re able to create presentations, create documents and share them, create forms for feedback and more. Its a well rounded tool for you and your business.

Asana

Ross loves Asana. When you have people to manage and some of those manage your clients directly, you will want to be kept in the loop to make sure tasks are getting done and done well. They have an incredibly generous free version that Ross was able to use for 4 years. Only this year did Ross start paying for Asana. It keeps you on task by giving everyone viability.

Acuity & Calendly

Acuity & Calendly

Acuity

This is a scheduling tool. It allows you to take away that back-and-forth communication to schedule an appointment. It will present potential clients to view your availability and pick what works best for them. It gives you a way for people to book and embed it on your website and social media.

Calendly

Calendly is similar to Acuity. Ross uses Calendly more, not only on his website, but also to book guest for his podcast recording sessions or even just a friendly chat.
